About

Since 1653...

According to the land register provided by SODEQ, manager of the Place-Royale real estate portfolio, the foundation of the first building hosting our parent branch dates back to 1653.

The name La Maison Smith honors Charles Smith and his descendants who occupied the premises for almost a hundred years during the 18th and 19th centuries. The name "La Maison Smith" and the year "1653" are therefore a nod to history that highlights the exceptional heritage of this sector by highlighting both elements from the French Regime and the English Regime.

It was during the opening of our fifth branch in Limoilou that we made a new discovery! We learned that dear Charles Smith had owned an estate called Smithville in this neighborhood, most likely including our cafe on 3rd Avenue.

The story repeats itself !
